This song starts off recorded on 4-track tape, and then switches over the tape-to-digital multitrack. This song was re-arranged specifically for the album, for we had stopped playing the live version long ago. Ryan's guitar and vocal at the beginning was originally meant to be a scratch track for Rachel to sing over. All vocal melodies on this track are improvised and done in one take.
lyrics
I keep my eyes focused on the ground
So I can count the steps to your house
You fill my heart not break it
And sometimes I can't even sing
Won't you let me give back to you
What you made in me?
For all kinds of reasons
We write down the very last dream
And I will never have a friend with your name
And I'll never have my one perfect thing
Very soon, the promise becomes another world
a sworn apology
The location of all things
